Doncaster Culture and Learning Centre
The Culture and Learning Centre sees the restoration of four existing buildings, comprising Doncaster Central Library, Doncaster Archives in Balby, Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery, and the Library Services for Schools, creating a cultural hub that will inspire creativity, informal learning, and innovation.
The focal point of the new building is the front of the former Girl’s School which has been carefully restored and encased in glass to create a truly unique exhibit. When lit up at night, it sends a statement out about what this public building is all about.
Metway designed and supplied the lighting control system, using an 8 channel Dali broadcast controller, Metway control centres and networkable broadcast LCMs communicating with PIR sensors and microwave sensors.
The light level in the glass façade was set with a daylight level of 500 lux to provide energy saving lighting control and to highlight the frontage of the Hall Cross girls school building. Wireless sensors allowed cascade control on the stairwells to ensure safe use while providing an energy saving lighting control solution across the whole building.
